Under its 11-metre domed ceiling, the building can now accommodate 60 people who can enjoy hi-tech shows about astronomy, space, astrophysics and earth sciences using the latest digital technology and visualisation software to bring visitors an out-of-this-world experience.
Five special laser projectors, sophisticated LED lighting and a state-of-the-art sound system combine to create spectacular panoramas of space and thousands of stars, as well as galaxies and comets.
The Planetarium shows are available in English and Arabic and are free of charge.
Stargazing: The Planetarium organises public stargazing parties in order to educate people about the sky and the constellations. The learning experience includes telescopes and constellation charts.
New spectacular shows: The Planetarium was upgraded in 2012 from a normal system to a full-dome digital set-up. Projectors create spectacular panoramas of space, thousands of stars as well as galaxies and comets.
Special Astronomy programme (Uniview): Is a complete classical planetarium which includes all the planets and thousands of stars, constellations, galaxies and comets. It is visualisation and simulation software aimed at presenting and teaching astronomy, astrophysics and earth sciences.
Lasers shows: Incorporating a range of graphics and music.
Translation for all shows (Arabic and English): Visitors can choose the language they prefer.
Mobile Planetarium: The mobile planetarium is a valuable educational and entertainment tool which PDO has been able to take to locations across the Sultanate to raise understanding about the wonders of our universe.
