It is illegal for a driver who holds a "Private Light" ROP driving license to drive red plated commercial vehicles. If a drivers license only indicates "Light" then he is able to drive such vehicles. A person"s license type is found on the back of the ROP driving license and will either say "Light" or "Private Light".
As a result of this law, management should ensure that only staff who hold a "Light" license are authorized to drive red plated light commercial vehicles. The defensive driving training providers TATI and SDI-Sheida are currently unable to accept any trainee for a course or recertification who holds a "Private Light" license as this would be illegal.
To avoid incurring "no show" fees, no manager should nominate a driver with a "Private Light" license for defensive driving training or recertification. Any people who present themselves for training with such licenses will be refused entry to the course.
The ROP are enforcing this law and people in breach are liable to be personally fined and potentially imprisoned. Always ensure you review all candidates ROP driving licenses for compliance before booking a defensive driving course or assessment.
