2000/11/28: Tanker rollover
A small tanker was transporting 4000 ltr of diesel from Qarn Alam to Yibal. It rolled over on a straight section of the black-top road probably because of front left tyre failure. The vehicle ended up on its back (180 deg turned). The driver came out with minor back pain. The helper had his left foot trapped under the cabin. By-passers assisted in removing him from under the vehicle. He suffered a complicated fracture of his lower leg and ankle. He was transferred to Nizwa hospital. He will be off work for at least 8 weeks and might suffer a partial permanent disability. It is not yet clear if the helper was wearing his seatbelt properly. A very small amount of diesel was spilled.
