On 19th November 1979, PDO opened the Oil & Gas Exhibition as a Gift to the Nation to mark the 9th anniversary of the reign of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said. The Centre will appeal to children, families, students, trainees, teachers and tourists.

في 19 نوفمبر 1979 افتتحت شركة تنمية نفط عُمان "مركز ومعرض النفط والغاز"، وقدمته هديةً للمواطنين تخليداً للذكرى التاسعة لتولي حضرة صاحب الجلالة السلطان قابوس بن سعيد المعظم -حفظه الله ورعاه- مقاليد الحكم في البلاد. وقد صمم المركز وأنشطته لتناسب مختلف شرائح الزوار من أطفال وعائلات وطلبة ومدرسين ومتدربين وعموم السياح.

في عام 2000 أنشأت شركة تنمية نفط عُمان القبة الفلكية لتكون بذلك أول قبة من نوعها في السلطنة، وقدمتها هدية للمواطنين تخليدًا للذكرى الثلاثين لتولي حضرة صاحب الجلالة السلطان قابوس بن سعيد المعظم ــ حفظه الله ورعاه ــ مقاليد الحكم في السلطنة. وتستقطب القبة الفلكية الزوار على اختلاف أعمارهم صغراً وكباراً، وتهدف إلى تعريفهم ببعض عجائب علم الفلك بأسلوب تفاعلي ممتع.​
