Please be reminded that from the 3rd April 2009 Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) entered into a Defensive Driving Training (DDT)contract with Technical & Administrative Training Institute (TATI).

No other Training Institute is currently recognised by PDO to provide DDT. Any PDO contractors who have utilised the services of another training institute since the 3rd April for DDT have purchased unauthorised training. Please note that this does not refer to contractors who themselves had authorisation from PDO to conduct in-house training but from the 12thJune 2009 all in-house contractor DDT also ceased as no contractors by this deadline provided evidence to PDO of their authorisation to provide in-house training.

Any such unauthorised DDT is deemed invalid by PDO and the provision of such training is potentially putting the safety of drivers at risk as the quality of the training can not be guaranteed. Permits that were issued by unauthorised Training Institutes will not be accepted and users of those permits will be in breach of PDO¿s requirements. All PDO Contractors and their Sub-Contractors MUST ensure that all their drivers possess valid driving permits from Training Institutes approved by PDO.

The new Road Standards Body contractor will be recording all driving permits on a database which will be audited and past records of training will be analysed to determine when contractors were trained and who by.

Only PDO contractors who have been audited and sanctioned to conduct in-house DDT by the Road Safety Standards Body will be authorised to conduct in-house training for their own staff and they will be subject to a quality audit check to ensure minimum standards are maintained.
