Safety Alert - Pedestrian safety at night
In one week PDO suffered two fatalities in separate road accidents, both involving contractor employees struck by passing vehicles whilst walking along the side of a road, one occurred in Nimr and one near Barka.
  • Avoid walking on the road unless absolutely necessary
  • Get off the road when traffic is approaching
  • Wear high visibility clothing/material at night so you are more visible
  • Only drive at night if absolutely necessary, drive slower and be more aware of unseen hazards.
  • Occurred at night on unlit roads with poor visibility
  • High-visibility vests were not worn making it difficult for drivers to see pedestrians in the dark
  • The pedestrians were walking along the edge of the roadway and exposed to risk
  • A 3rd party vehicle was speeding whilst overtaking.
