Safety Alert - Pedestrian safety at night
In one week PDO suffered two fatalities in separate road accidents, both involving contractor employees struck by passing vehicles whilst walking along the side of a road, one occurred in Nimr and one near Barka.
Avoid walking on the road unless absolutely necessary
Get off the road when traffic is approaching
Wear high visibility clothing/material at night so you are more visible
Only drive at night if absolutely necessary, drive slower and be more aware of unseen hazards.
Occurred at night on unlit roads with poor visibility
High-visibility vests were not worn making it difficult for drivers to see pedestrians in the dark
The pedestrians were walking along the edge of the roadway and exposed to risk
A 3rd party vehicle was speeding whilst overtaking.
