Road Fatality: truck roll-over
Mr. Abdullah Sleyum Al Hilali was driving a truck & trailer combination loaded with 21 tons of linepipe for delivery to Fahud from Muscat. At 5.30 pm some 75 km before Fahud, in a slow bend to the right, the vehicle drove off the left side of the blacktop road and rolled over. The cabin was crushed by the impact and Abdullah Hilali died on the spot.
Drivers must comply with the issued Safe Journey Management plan. Journey Managers must make sure the driver understands the plan.
Journey Managers should take drivers pre-trip rest period, health and possible fatigue into consideration when making the SJM plan.
Drivers must STOP immediately and REST when they feel tired. Opening windows, increasing radio volume, etc, does NOT help.
Drivers must comply with the maximum speed limits.
Organise driver forums and/or ¿peer group¿ discussions with your drivers on a regular basis.
Get your professional drivers to attend the Defensive Driving Courses even if their ¿old¿ permit has not yet expired.
The driver did not overnight in Izz as per his Safe Journey Management plan. He continued the 2 hour journey to Fahud instead.
The driver most likely fell asleep behind the wheel (there where no brake marks).
Driver was speeding: estimated 100 km/hr against a speed-limit of 80 km/hr.
