Banksman killed by shifting load in crane operation
A crewmember of the BP operated semi-submersible drilling unit, Transocean Leader was fatally injured on 2nd March 2002. The accident occurred during a routine lifting operation while offloading from a supply vessel. The task was to lift a 43-foot basket on top of another basket in the riser storage area. Several attempts failed to land basket in right position. At some point on the final attempt, the banksman moved into the riser bay area.
