Safety Day 2017 February 21



AIM

To create a reporting culture to save lives.

THEME

The focus of the day is on the importance of reporting hazards we see or near misses and incidents we experience. Effective reporting of incident is essential to driving a strong safety culture for us to achieve no harm to people and the environment, which is our Goal Zero journey.  If we don’t report our incidents, then we cannot learn from them leaving ourselves and are colleagues exposed to the same risk in the future.

  • To understand different types of incidents
  • To understand the importance of reporting incidents
  • To know the people & cost implications of incidents
  • Consider how we can best promote reporting of incidents
  • To learn about different tools available for reporting incidents
  • Consider how we can best  share & learn from incidents

Key Roles
Directors
  • Share key messages around 'Reporting Incidents' with the teams.
Staff (PDO & Contractors)
  • Look for ways to discuss 'Reporting Incidents' with your team and within your location
  • Participate in Safety Day events and challenge your leaders to prepare an effective Safety Day
  • Identify and discuss issues around 'Reporting Incidents' relevant to the teams
Contract Holders
  • Ensure contractors conduct their Safety Day sessions and fill the Safety Day feedback survey
Supervisors
  • Ensure Staff participation in the Safety Day and to fill the Safety Day feedback survey
Leaders/Facilitators
  • Use the information provided in the Leader's Guide below for an effective session

  

Deliverables

At the end of the session every individual should:

  • Understand what 'Reporting Incidents' means in relation to Safety Performance
  • Know the tools used for 'Reporting Incidents'
  • 'Reporting Incidents' is a DUTY and RESPONSIBILITY of every individual
