Aim
|
To focus on “THE BASICS ” |
Objectives
|
The 2014 Safety Day theme is “THE BASICS”. This theme focuses on the element of “The Basics” to comply with the 3 PDO Golden Rules (Comply, Intervene & Respect), this year we will focus on Comply which is fundamental to our lives and our business. Safety is a core value in PDO and is overarching priority in everything we do in our operations. Our safety performance relies on all of us understanding the basics, e.g. rules, procedures, standards etc and carryout our day to day activities in a safe manner.
The theme also reflects that we are taking time out for safety by looking at the Basics in our respective operations. We encourage you and your team to think about how we all can take time to understand the Basics and comply with them at all times. Time to share ideas and concerns on safety. Time to make the connection between all of us, whether in the office or on site. Time to properly plan to work safely and listen to concerns from our staff. Time to show that we care for the safety of all of us at all times. Time to reflect how our actions and behaviors can impact the safety of others. Together we can make Goal Zero a reality.
Comply with the Basics:
Raoul’s Quote
“Know the rules and operational procedures and ensure full compliance with them . Work together to ensure a very compliant behaviour , follow-through safety performance”
- Understand what ‘Comply’ means to individuals.
- Raise awareness of non-compliance (in context of the HSE Golden Rules).
- Acknowledge the extent of the problem (most common causal factor in major incidents).
- Develop understanding of why people break rules.
- Develop understanding that improving compliance requires a culture change (this is everyone’s responsibility, especially those inleadership positions).
- Facilitate and support implementation strategies to improve compliance.
