LTI No. 40The Injured Person was attempting to measure the height of the overhead line above the ground using a metal tape. The metal tape came into close proximity (approximately 30 cms) of the live overhead line and caused a flashover. The Injured Person suffered 40 to 50% 2nd and 3rd degree burns to the left upper limb, left upper chest partially, entire back and right leg. Luckily the injured person escaped DEATH.
The cause of the Incident is non-compliance with the approved clearance certificate procedure for work in the vicinity or passage under overhead power lines. Refer to HSE SM Chapter 11.
