The planetarium, which was upgraded in 2012 from normal system to a”full-dome” digital system, can accommodate 60 people and has a domed ceiling of 11 meters. There are several projectors that can create spectacular panoramas of space.

Some of the attractions include:

• A special Astronomy programme (Uniview) is a complete classical planetarium which includes all the planets and thousands of stars, constellations, galaxies and comets. It is a visualisation and simulation software aimed at presenting and teaching astronomy, astrophysics and earth sciences.
• Laser shows with different types of graphycis and music.
• A new sophisticated sound system combines to give the visitors a multimedia experience of the wondrous sights of the universe.
• Translating systems for all shows (Arabic - English) so visitors can choose the language in which they prefer to enjoy the show.

The Planetarium also organises public stargazing parties in order to educate the interested people about the sky and the constellations. Using a powerful green laser pointer, we will help you and your children to identify the famous constellations and their bright stars. You are strongly recommended to have a very unique experience by watching the moon, the planets and many other objects thorough the telescope. This event is held about once a month. In 2015, PDO launched the mobile planetarium (a dome with a 10 m diameter) that can occupy more than 60 people. The plan is to reach people in remote areas through conducting planned outreach activities throughout the year.

• The Planetarium shows are free of charge.
• There are no shows on Fridays and public holidays.
• Visitors have to book in advance and are requested to be present 10 minutes before the start of the show.
• There are no evening shows during the Holy month of Ramadhan.
